On Fossé des Treize street, the facade of Hôtel D does not try to stand out from across the street. The street is quiet, set a little back from the pedestrian zone. You sometimes walk up it twice before spotting the right door, especially when arriving at night, suitcase in hand.

Once inside, the tone changes. The decor, designed by interior architect Sybille de Margerie, plays on contrasting shades and contemporary furniture that catches the light from the lobby. The colors are there for a reason.

37 rooms and suites are spread across the floors. The spaces vary from one category to another. The standard rooms remain compact but are designed for work, with a desk equipped with international outlets, a minibar, a Nespresso machine, and Nuxe products in the bathroom. Bathrobe and slippers are waiting on the bed. The suites, meanwhile, open onto a proper living room. The Executive Suite, with its 35 m2, looks out over the rooftops of Strasbourg, which makes the morning light feel very different.

On the ground floor, breakfast has a somewhat long name, Signature Organic & Gourmand, but lives up to it. The breads and pastries come out of the oven of a local baker, Thierry Schwartz. The jam comes from Climont, the honey too, and the yogurts arrive from the Laiterie du Climont, a few kilometers away. At peak times, the room fills up quickly and tables become scarce; it is better to aim for an earlier or later time slot to enjoy the buffet without queuing.

One floor down, the relaxation area hides a sauna and a rest room, including heated loungers. A thirty-minute massage can be added in the afternoon, as an option. The fitness room, equipped by Technogym (treadmills, bikes, Kinesis steppers), stays open at all hours for those who keep up their workout routine while traveling.

As for parking, a private secure garage is part of the same complex. You can unload your luggage in front of the entrance and leave it at reception while you park; expect to pay around twenty euros for the night.

Outside, the cathedral is about a ten-minute walk away, the Christmas market sets up a few hundred meters away in winter, and the Broglie or Ancienne Synagogue - Les Halles tram stops are less than ten minutes away. The European district is easy to reach by tram or bicycle.

Reception remains open day and night, and the staff switch between several languages depending on evening arrivals.
