Maison Lutetia R overlooks Rue du Général Rapp, in Strasbourg’s Neustadt district, a part of the city laid out in the 1930s with bourgeois façades and broad avenues. It is halfway between the central station and the European Parliament, and it takes only about ten minutes on foot to reach Notre-Dame Cathedral and the historic center.

From the moment you arrive, the tone is set by a team that speaks fluent French, English, and German, and is available day and night at reception. They can book a taxi, a table at a restaurant in the city center, or an appointment at the hairdresser before an evening out. It is these small, almost mundane services that make the difference when you do not know the city.

The 39 rooms are divided into five categories, from the 13 m² Classic room to the 27 m² Junior Suite with its 180 cm bed, bathrobes, and minibar. Everywhere, the same decorative vocabulary: renovated old parquet floors, wood paneling, tapestries, bronze mirrors, and carefully chosen carpeting. You can feel that the building has kept its age, and that no one has tried to erase it under a layer of gray and polished concrete. One downside, however: in a building of this era, with its stairs and original floors, no room has been adapted for guests with reduced mobility. Something to check before booking if that is a criterion for you.

In the morning, breakfast is served in the dining room from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., buffet style: pastries and homemade cakes, cured meats, cheeses, products that smell more local than industrial. Children under 4 eat for free, older children at a reduced rate, and for those who prefer to take their time in bed, room service is available for an additional charge.

On the ground floor as well, the bar offers a fairly wide selection of drinks, enough to round off a day of sightseeing without leaving the hotel. A terrace lets you enjoy a quieter moment, especially at the end of the day when the light fades over the street.

As for parking, there is no private lot: you park on the street, and Strasbourg enforces a fairly strict policy on long-term parking in this area. Those arriving by train will have no trouble, as the station is just a few minutes’ walk away; motorists, on the other hand, would do well to check the neighborhood’s public parking options before arriving.

The hotel does not accept pets, a detail to keep in mind if you are traveling with a four-legged companion.

One last tip: if possible, ask for a room on the upper floors. The view opens onto the rooftops of the Neustadt, and in the evening, with the streetlamps coming on along Rue du Général Rapp, it is well worth the look before heading back down for one last drink at the bar.
