EtC... Hôtel is located right in the center of Strasbourg, between the cathedral and Petite France, just a few minutes from Place Kléber and its shop windows. You can almost always get there on foot, by cutting through the cobbled lanes of the Grande Île.

From the moment you enter, the tone is set: color, but subdued, not garish. There is no elevator here. The hotel is spread over four floors, which you climb on foot, suitcase in hand. The kind of detail that feels heavy on the first night, and is quickly forgotten once you find your room.

Each floor has its own atmosphere. A different color universe on every landing, which continues into the corridors. You choose your room almost as you would choose a mood for the day, rather cocoon-like, rather energizing. The 35 rooms come in single, double, twin, triple, or quadruple versions, each with its own decor. For families, a baby bed, a bathtub with thermometer, a bottle warmer, or a high chair can be requested free of charge at the time of booking.

In most rooms, the toilet is separate from the bathroom, a plus when traveling with several people and getting ready at the same time. Free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, and an iron available on loan at reception for shirts wrinkled by the journey.

In the morning, the breakfast room smells of coffee and fresh pastries. The buffet leans into regional products: cured meats, cheeses, fruit, bread from a local artisan baker. Service runs from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on weekdays, and a little later on weekends.

On the ground floor, the bar serves as a stopover before heading back out to dine in the neighborhood. The Dubliners and its fish & chips are not far away, as are the terraces around Place Kléber.

The address is central, so you can hear the street come alive, especially on Christmas market evenings or when the weather is nice. Nothing bothersome in itself, but light sleepers will notice it.

Reception remains open 24/7, handy for late trains or very early departures. One last tip: at check-out, head to the luggage storage before setting off again to explore the Grande Île; your suitcase stays at the hotel, your legs stay free until evening.
