The Hôtel Roses is located in the Krutenau district of Strasbourg, just a few minutes’ walk from Quai des Bateliers and the cathedral. It is often reached after walking through the narrow streets leading toward Petite France, and the façade has the understated charm of houses in the old center.

From the moment you enter, the name makes perfect sense. Each room bears the name of a rose, itself associated with a personality or a theme: the arts and entertainment on one floor, literary heroes on another, romantics further along. The whole creates a quiet sense of coherence, never veering into gimmickry.

On the ground floor, the reception area also serves as the breakfast room. Between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., the buffet is set out: pastries, assorted breads, artisanal jams, and the famous kouglof signed by Christophe Felder, which comes up in almost every stay report. The hotel has chosen to ban overwrapped products, a detail you notice mainly because you do not see it.

As you go up through the floors, the tone changes a little depending on the room chosen. The singles, around 10 to 12 m², are enough for an overnight stop, but they are small, and so is the bathroom that comes with them: it is hard to turn around in them if you have long legs. The superior doubles, more generous at 15 to 20 m², offer real breathing room, with a kettle and a desk area. For a family or a longer stay, it is better to go for the suite, with its two bedrooms and adjoining single bed.

All rooms have air conditioning, but under the roof, in summer, it sometimes struggles to keep up with the heat. Nothing alarming, more a point to keep in mind if you book in the middle of August: asking for a room on an intermediate floor, facing the courtyard or the city, usually solves the issue.

The bar, at the end of the day, has something a little old-fashioned about it, with its piano and subdued lighting. Guests are happy to drop in before going back out for dinner, or when returning late, as reception remains open 24 hours a day.

For fitness, a sauna and a small room equipped with a rowing machine and a bicycle make it possible to recover after a day spent roaming between the cathedral, Place Kléber, and the European Parliament, very close by.

The staff often come up in stay reports, positively: warm welcome, often in several languages, help with luggage that can be left in storage for the day before room check-in at 3 p.m.

One last practical detail: remember to ask for your kouglof to take away if you are leaving early in the morning; reception is happy to slip it into a bag for the journey.
