It is often reached on foot from the station, in barely ten minutes, suitcase in hand and already with the feeling of being in the middle of everything.

From the lobby onward, the tone is set: understated, almost silent, far from the decor of grand downtown hotels. The 57 apartments are divided into two formats, from studios of 15 to 20 square meters to one-bedroom units that can accommodate four people. The spaces remain modest, especially in the studios designed for one or two travelers, but every corner seems to have been thought through. A sofa that folds out, a bed that spans the full width of the room, a kitchenette tucked into one wall (dishwasher, ceramic hob, microwave grill), enough to put together dinner without leaving the room.

On the ground floor, the bar remains open from morning to evening, with a menu available continuously for those arriving late or leaving early. The Fogg restaurant, for its part, only serves dinner, Monday to Saturday, with flavors from all over the world. At lunchtime, the kitchenette takes over. You stop by the greengrocer on the neighboring street, two or three items are enough, and the meal is enjoyed on site, at your own pace.

As for parking, there is no private parking attached to the residence. A public car park is nearby, with a reduced-rate ticket handed out at reception, around 18 euros per day. Since Rue de la Haute Montée is not accessible by car, it is better to park first and then walk to the hotel, with your luggage on a cart provided. In such a central area, where Place Kléber, the cathedral, and the Homme de Fer tram stop are all just a few minutes’ walk apart, the car is secondary anyway.

Step outside and Notre-Dame Cathedral rises a few streets away. Its 13th-century stained glass windows wait for the late-afternoon light to reveal their colors. Petite France is best explored on foot, among canals and half-timbered houses, and the Krutenau district comes alive in the evening, with wine bars and small Alsatian tables.

At the top of the building, a terrace shielded from street noise welcomes a few fruit trees. In the warmer season, you can still pick ripe fruit there before heading back down. The gym, more modest, is enough for a quick workout before setting off to hike the Wine Route or wander the streets of Colmar, less than an hour away by train.

At reception, the staff know the tram schedules by heart and can also point you to the best winstub in the neighborhood, the one where choucroute is served without fuss. Families appreciate the playroom designed for children, while parents enjoy a slightly quieter evening.

One last detail for early risers in December: the Christmas market is set up right on Place Kléber, and from the top-floor windows, the first garlands light up even before the chalets open.
