The Origami Hotel is not exactly in the heart of old Strasbourg. Let’s say it straight away so you don’t get off the train at the wrong address: from the station, you take the tram, just one stop, to Rotonde. The cathedral and Petite France are still about a half-hour walk away, or about ten minutes by tram. This slight distance from the historic center has its positive side: the neighborhood is quiet in the evening, and the tram drops you practically at the door.

Pushing open that door, you find yourself in a lobby unlike any classic hotel hall. Two hundred and fifty square meters where everything blends together: the reception on one side, a bar on the other, high tables for opening a laptop, a few armchairs for doing absolutely nothing. The origami theme, this Japanese art of folding, appears throughout, in the patterns and the shapes of the light fixtures, without repeating itself on every floor.

In the morning, it’s Isabelle who welcomes the first breakfast guests. The buffet focuses on organic and local products, with a few homemade preparations that make a change from the usual pastries wrapped in cellophane. One detail to know before booking: depending on the package chosen, this breakfast may be added as an extra to the room rate. It’s better to check this point when booking so there are no surprises when settling the bill.

On the upper floors, the 98 rooms and suites play with blue tones and brighter colors depending on the room, with large windows that let the light in over the city. The headboard, made of Krion material, purifies the air through photocatalysis, a technical detail that goes almost unnoticed as long as you don’t know it’s there. You adjust the lighting yourself depending on the time: soft light for reading, brighter light for working. The suites, larger, have a Nespresso machine and a sofa bed to accommodate a family.

In the evening, back to the ground floor. The bar serves snack options and dishes in jars prepared with a local partner, between 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. It’s not a gourmet restaurant, more a practical option for anyone returning late from a day of sightseeing or meetings and not wanting to go back out. For a longer dinner, the city center and its well-known Indian restaurants (Cinnamon, Le Namaste, Le Madras) are still just a few minutes away by tram.

A fitness room equipped with treadmills, exercise bikes, and a strength-training station stays open from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., at no extra charge. Enough to fit in a session before heading out to explore the city, or after a day of walking through the cobbled streets of Petite France.

One last tip for the morning: arrive at breakfast a little before 8:30 a.m. The room fills up quickly with groups heading out to visit the city.
