Presentation

Hôtel Hannong opens in the heart of Strasbourg, halfway between the train station and the cathedral, two landmarks reachable in less than ten minutes on foot. Its bourgeois façade, inherited from 1920 and the Horn brothers, figures on Strasbourg’s artistic scene of the time, gives no hint of what awaits behind the door.

Past the entrance, the wooden staircase catches the eye. Wide, worn smooth by time, it serves the upper floors between landings lined in deep tones. It evokes the thirties without anything seeming frozen in a reconstruction.

The 72 rooms are divided into several formats. The cosy room, with its 15m2, goes for compactness: you sleep well there, but you do not spread your belongings across multiple surfaces. At the other end of the range, the junior suite offers a seating area, a marble table near a bay window, and a bathroom with a whirlpool tub. Everywhere, parquet flooring, air conditioning that adjusts quietly, and furniture that seems designed piece by piece.

As for parking, you have to make do with a paid public parking lot a few streets away; the hotel does not have its own. If you are arriving by car, it is better to plan for this step before you arrive rather than once you have the keys in hand.

From 7 a.m., the breakfast room fills up. Generous buffet, homemade bread, local jams, fruit juice, gluten-free and lactose-free options for those who need them.

In the evening, Black&Wine takes over beneath its glass ceiling. Guests settle in for a platter of cured meats or cheese, and a glass chosen from a list that goes far beyond Alsace wines.

On the top floor, the rooftop changes pace. Soft banquettes, cocktails, a view over the city-centre rooftops, late in the day when the weather allows.

If you arrive late in the afternoon, it is worth detouring to the rooftop before heading up to drop off your bags. The outdoor bar closes promptly at 9 p.m., so it is best not to miss the window.

Hotel a three-minute walk from the Homme de Fer tram stop, ten minutes on foot from the train station. Convenient for visiting the city centre without taking the car again.
Before arrival, an email from the hotel with advice on parking in the area. On site, the front desk directed us to a parking lot two streets away with a negotiated discount for guests.
Room rather small but well laid out, parquet flooring, everything impeccable in terms of cleanliness. The bathroom is compact, but it remains comfortable for one or two nights.
Breakfast with local products and fresh morning bread. Dinner one evening at the wine bar downstairs, decent charcuterie platter and quick service.
Upgraded on arrival without asking, with a bottle of wine left in the room. A small gesture appreciated after a day walking around the centre.
