Presentation

The Hôtel Athena Spa is located in Strasbourg, between the TGV train station and the Zénith, in the Hautepierre district. There are no half-timbered houses under the window here, nor any Alsatian gables on the horizon: the district is newer, designed around hospitals and major roads. The tram stops right nearby, and getting to Petite France or the cathedral takes about a quarter of an hour. For a business stay, a trade show, or simply the desire to sleep far from the tourist crowds, the location has its appeal.

From the entrance, the colors stand out. The lobby plays on bright, almost pop tones, set against furniture with clean lines. You can tell the place was designed to surprise a little, without ever overdoing it.

The rooms, 92 in total across classic categories and suites, follow the same colorful logic. The spaces are generous, the bathrooms functional, with walk-in showers in most cases. Some suites go further, with open views over the district and, for the luckiest guests, a balneotherapy bathtub designed for two.

In the basement, the wellness area extends over 300 m². The sensory pool, heated to around 30 degrees, with its jets and massaging bench, can be used freely and is included in the stay. The steam room, the saunas (Finnish, tropical), and the experience shower, however, are part of a separate package: an extra charge to plan for if you want to take relaxation a step further, but one that is justified, especially after a day of meetings or sightseeing.

As for dining, Bistrot Athena serves revamped French cuisine under the direction of the chef, in a largely glass-fronted room that lets in daylight. In good weather, the terrace takes over, quieter, for dinner or just a drink.

In the morning, the buffet is plentiful: pastries, cured meats, fresh fruit, enough to keep you going until lunch. It is not always included depending on the rate booked, a detail to check when making the reservation.

The lounge bar stays open late, until one in the morning on some evenings, with a cocktail and smoothie menu to extend the evening without leaving the hotel.

Downstairs, the fitness room never closes. Open 24 hours a day, it attracts both early risers and insomniacs from the top floor.

A tip: book a massage in the late afternoon, just before dinner service. The spa empties out around 6 p.m., the light fades, and you can almost have the pool to yourself.
